When Alexis Ré & Kabeção met, it was just like that. They were just being themselves, playing music on a mountain top from sun up to sundown to sun up again for days, dancing amidst a melodic high that never seemed to fade. Once they started playing, it was as if they had been writing music together for years. There was an instantaneous ancient connection that till this day, expresses itself through an entrancing combination of her voice with the way he plays - no matter handpan, Rav, or Udu in hand, his rhythm & her vocals create something truly unique.
It was during those timeless improv moments that they recorded “Gravity” in 2016 at HOUSA… a song that, by accident, many grew to love, including Alexis & Kabeção.
Years went by and both of them knew that they wanted to collaborate, but they lived half a world apart - Alexis in the US, and Kabé in Portugal. Till one day, 3 years later, they got a chance to meet again. It was as if no time had passed! They ended up spontaneously performing together in an old Spanish castle in Florida where the next phase became clear. Alexis reached out to Kabeção and asked - “What do we need to do to record what we have?” He replied “Come to Portugal.” & So, she did.
In January of 2020, she flew to Portugal to record their connection to share with the world. After a 15 hour flight, she found her way into Kabé’s studio, and though close to midnight, they ended up writing 2 out of the 4 songs you hear on their EP called Tracker. That’s how fluid their musical connection is - a clear, Angelic channel that stems deeply from intuition and active listening to one another. Sometimes it’s like that, and when it is, don’t take it for granted!
In a matter of 6 days, they wrote and professionally recorded 4 full length tracks that take you on a complete journey.
The music itself was written between great food, conversation, and adventure.
The dialogues they had about the path of the soul, following ones dreams, and the discoveries of life outside of themselves inspired the lyrical content that Alexis wrote with ease.
She sings about human potential, a need for change in the world, and the natural rhythms of life and our connection to something bigger than us as individuals. Her message woven with the intricate and rhythmic melodies of the Rav bring a new meaning to spreading positivity. What made this work so well was the teamwork and natural chemistry between not only Alexis Ré & Kabeção, but with Francisco of Camaleão, Auka with her amazing videography, & Kabeção’s network of friends and fellow musicians in the area that made Tracker a reality, just by being there when they were needed.
Every aspect of the EP was executed in perfect timing. They finished literally just a couple hours before Alexis took a flight to an island where she hiked alone above the clouds to the sound of their new EP.
Covid - 19 shut down the borders only a couple months after their project was completed. Any later time, it would not have happened… but this music wanted to be heard. Flying into this, they were just acquaintances that had met on a mountain top… & after completing it, they knew they had become life long soul family.
“Tracker” is a guide to help you decide which path you are on… to help you decide what you are here to do.
So take a moment and really ask yourself… “Which wolf will you feed?”
